Think Like a Race Engineer. Drive Like a Pro.
Software and resources for real-world and sim racers who want to understand setup — not just copy one. More than a decade helping drivers go faster.
The next evolution of Monkey Face Software — a new app and the book that explains the thinking behind it all.
The Race Engineer in Your Sim Cockpit
Two purpose-built tools, one app. Build a race setup from scratch with the Setup Developer, then fine-tune it lap by lap — and even mid-race — with the Setup Engineer. Runs as a transparent overlay on top of your sim. No alt-tabbing. No spreadsheets. No downloading someone else's setup and hoping for the best.
Think Like a Race Engineer. Drive Like a Pro.
A practical system for building speed and consistency — written by Tim McArthur from decades of real-world and sim racing experience. Available as a PDF download on Itch.io and for Kindle.
The original Monkey Face apps — still available on Steam and Itch.io.
Your on-call race engineer in software form. Walks you through setup problems symptom by symptom and recommends specific changes — explaining the why behind every suggestion so you learn as you go.
"I tried three cars, in two different sims, and in all three cars I did improve my lap times... all in all, I think Setup Developer works really well."
"Not only are the suggestions correct, but above all, I want to point out once again, are proposed in a clear, intuitive way."
"Setups can often be a bit of a black art... the tool can help give quick feedback from a well-reasoned and experienced perspective, dialing in your setups to be more to your liking while quicker overall."
"Simple UI, but nice and informative, strongly recommend this app for anyone looking to learn more information about tuning cars and getting that extra speed!"
"Awesome tool for setups"
"Very helpful in sorting out the car"
"A great tool, for learning setups or making a setup better"
"Awesome tool to learn setup a race car, virtual or real! Thumbs up!"
Three decades at the intersection of motorsport and software.
Tim McArthur has spent his career bridging the worlds of competitive motorsport and software engineering. His work spans more than 30 third-party applications for major auto racing titles — including NASCAR Racing 3, NASCAR Racing Legends, Grand Prix Legends, and NASCAR Racing 4 — giving him rare insight into what drivers and engineers actually need from a digital tool.
In 2005 Tim co-created Race2Play, the largest online racing organization of its time, which ran for over a decade. During that period, a partnership with the National Auto Sport Association put him on real-world tracks, working through a full racing license program behind the wheel of an actual race car.
In 2007 he operated the High Performance Driver Tutoring program, providing one-on-one coaching to new sim racers. That coaching instinct lives in every piece of software Monkey Face builds: the goal is always to develop the driver, not just hand them a number.
Monkey Face Software LLC was founded in 2018 to house and grow the Virtual Race Car Engineer and Setup Developer Tool — products that have now helped more than 10,000 drivers better understand race car setup.
